Red Pine Exploration (TSXV: RPX) said on Monday that investigations into past assay results from its Wawa gold project in Ontario found no evidence of inconsistencies, and that the company can rely on the validity of those results.
Last week, the Toronto-based gold junior issued a press release stating that it was withdrawing all previously reported assays from the Wawa project after discovering “inconsistencies” in certain results. A detailed investigation ensued.

Report encourages mining industry to target smaller mineral deposits to fill the critical minerals supply gap
Canada has an abundance of small, high-grade mineral deposits. There just doesn’t seem to be much of an appetite by the mining industry to tap into them. Small deposits are being overlooked, said a report prepared by B.C.-based Common Good Mining, because of the perception that they’re not economic due to assumed high costs, and lack of infrastructure or technology to put them into production.
But small-scale mining is a business model that’s worth exploring, (said the report), especially if Canada requires more critical minerals to feed the green-tech revolution.
Red Pine Exploration (TSXV: RPX) said on Wednesday it has withdrawn all previously announced assays for the Wawa gold project in Ontario after discovering “inconsistencies” in certain results.
These include assay results announced by way of press releases and those referenced in past disclosure documents, such as the NI 43-101 report for the Wawa project dated June 2023, the company said.

In its search for a new leader, Wawa gold hunter Red Pine Exploration snagged someone with familiarity of the Michipicoten greenstone belt.
Michael Michaud will bring fresh eyes to Red Pine’s Wawa Gold Project when he relinquishes his title as Wesdome Gold Mine’s senior vice-president of exploration on July 11 and takes the helm as president-CEO of the Toronto junior miner on July 19. Red Pine made the announcement in an April 22 news release. He replaces Quentin Yarie who stepped down in late February. Yarie has been with the company since 2009 but will stay on in an advisory role through the transition.

While he’s “optimistic” about getting a deal done at some point in his two-year term, Aroland First Nation Chief Sonny Gagnon said the first part of the road to the Ring of Fire isn’t as close as the premier is making it out to be.

Equinox Gold (TSX: EQX; NYSE-AM: EQX) is buying partner Orion Mine Finance’s 40% stake in their new Greenstone gold mine in Ontario for US$995 million in cash and shares as it prepares to pour first gold.
The purchase includes US$745 million in cash and 42 million shares valued at US$250 million. It was announced late on Tuesday after Australia’s Gold Road Resources (ASX: GOR) said it was no longer considering buying a stake in Greenstone from Orion. Equinox said it would fund the purchase through a new US$500-million loan and a US$260-million bought-deal equity financing.

Hometown mine builder on a fast pace to put former INCO asset back into early production by year’s end
Seventeen months after acquiring a dormant INCO nickel and copper mine in Sudbury, Magna Mining said it’s ready to begin test mining later this year.

Aston Minerals endowed with both gold and nickel deposits at its Edleston Project
A promising new nickel sulphide project in the Timmins area is growing in size and tonnage. Aston Minerals has released a new mineral estimate of its two deposits at its Edleston Project, showing a 44 per cent bump in the indicated nickel and cobalt resource over last year’s calculation.
The Australian company is carrying out technical work to determine if its leading Bardwell deposit can be economically mined. Edleston, situated 60 kilometres south of Timmins, is similar to Canada Nickel’s Crawford Project, north of the city, in that it’s a huge tonnage but low-grade ore property.

Toronto developer begins study of what a lithium conversion plant might look like
Avalon Advanced Materials has started a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) of its proposed Thunder Bay lithium refinery. The Toronto company said in a news release that DRA Americas, an internationally known engineering firm, is the lead consultant tasked with pulling the PEA together.
The PEA is part of a series of economic and technical analyses that will inform Avalon’s decision to construct the facility. Avalon secured $15 million from a New York fund manager in March to do the study.

Record-high gold prices are welcome news for mining operations in northeastern Ontario as the metal continues to surge in the market. Gold prices topped $2,400 US an ounce last week, a 20 per cent increase from the same time in 2023.
Some mayors from northeastern communities say the gold rush has helped local economies. “It’s been excellent for the community,” said Mark Stickel, mayor of Matachewan, home of the Young-Davidson mine located 60 kilometres west of Kirkland.
