NEWS RELEASE: VALE CONCERT SERIES RAISES $17,500 IN SUPPORT OF THE SUDBURY FOOD BANK

For Immediate Release

SUDBURY, September 17, 2012 –Vale is pleased to announce that as a result of the ‘Vale Concert Series’, $17,500 was raised in support of the Sudbury Food Bank.

The series of five concerts began in May and was held throughout the summer at The Grace Hartman Amphitheatre. Admission to the community was free with monetary donations to the Sudbury Food Bank welcomed.

“This was the first event of its kind for Vale and we were thrilled with the outcome,” said Angie Robson, Manager of Corporate Affairs for Vale’s Ontario Operations. “We thank everyone who came out to hear some great Canadian music while at the same time giving so generously,” added Robson.

Past concerts featured Dave Gunning, Hemingway Corner, the Marigolds, Wendell Ferguson and Katherine Wheatley. The final concert, featuring Murray McLauchlan and Cindy Church, drew a crowd of more than 1,200 local residents. It is estimated that in total, approximately 3,500 people attended the five concerts.

All concerts were produced and managed by Bob Bale, a 2011 recipient of the Sudbury Food Bank ‘Hubby Award’ for his charitable work to help feed those in need in the community.

“I’m extremely proud of Sudburians who gave so generously, not only from their wallets but from their hearts, in welcoming and embracing the fine Canadian talent in the Vale Concert Series,” said Bob Bale.

“The feeling of community was palpable. Cindy Church, who contacted me following her performance with Murray McLauchlan, told me what a truly wonderful experience they had.  Sudbury was a very welcoming place for all the musicians who played in the Series this summer,” Bale added.

“The Food Bank is proud to be partnered with this outstanding concert series,” said Geoffrey Lougheed, Chair of the Sudbury Food Bank. ”Vale’s vision of a shared community gathering and Bob’s gift of giving a wonderful mix of Canadian music allowed us to celebrate the best of the spirit of Sudbury. We all enjoyed the amazing music, renewed old friendships, made some new friends and filled our shelves during the challenging summer months, ensuring food for the hungry.”

Vale thanks the Travelodge Hotel for generously providing accommodation for the artists, and the City of Greater Sudbury for their support of the Concert Series.
