This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Jeannette McGill is one of the foremost thinkers in mining, having earned her stripes working many years underground and studying at the best universities in the world. She makes the point, in this TEDxJohannesburg 2014 talk, that mining needs to embrace technology if it’s ever going to reach the productivity levels of its past.

Dr Jeannette McGill is a mining visionary. Before earning two Master’s degrees and a PhD in economic geology and mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines, USA., McGill was the first woman to work underground in numerous mines in South Africa and only the second to acquire an underground blasting ticket. McGill is recognized as a thought leader with regards technology and innovation and is a senior manager and non-executive director.
