A Canadian mining blog with a Sudbury connection has chosen as one of the world’s top 10 industry-related blogs.

Mining IQ put RepublicOfMining.com in eighth place on its top ten list of the world’s top mining industry blogs. RepublicOfMining.com is owned and operated by Stan Sudol, a man who now calls Toronto home, but who is a native of Sudbury.

Australia-based Mining IQ, a mining guide and international learning and communications portal, put RepublicOfMining.com on its list of Top 10 Mining Blogs, one of only two Canadian sites to be included.

The publication highlighted the blog’s strong mission statement and the variety of categories readers can choose from, creditting Sudol for his “enlightened approach”.

“My blog has been on the Web for almost four years and I am incredibly pleased to be recognized by a well-known Australian mining publication,” Sudol said. “It shows the global nature of the mining industry and the importance of balanced information on a much maligned industry.”

The blog focusses primarily about the historical, political, and economic aspects of the mining sector, and highlights the enormous environmental opposition to resource development. There are many postings of articles critical of the mining sector, giving the industry an accurate perspective of its current public image.

Part of the Blog’s popularity is that it provides ample context to complex issues through a wide variety of commentary, a media release from RepublicOfMining.com states.

On the site, northern Ontario readers will find historical information related to mining camps in Sudbury, Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Elliot Lake and Red Lake, as well as current commentary and articles about regional mining issues.
